Effects of the leading insect repellant vs. Bioneem or Citronella

  • DEET is the active chemical ingredient in most insect repellents available in the United States.
  • It is used to repel such biting pests as mosquitoes and ticks-including ticks that may carry Lyme disease.
  • DEET was registered in the U.S. for the general public to use in 1957.
DEET is the active ingredient in the leading insect repellant in the Philippines. Spray or apply it to the smooth surface of a styro cup and wait to see what happens. After awhile the styro cup will not longer be smooth but corroded. This is what deet does to your skin and body as well. Can you imagine what prolonged use can do?
Compare this to Bioneem or citronella bug spray that does not change the styro cup.

To DEET Or Not To DEET, Compelling Issues Draw Consumer Attention
By David Shaw CEO, Quantum, Inc.

DEET has been proven to enter the bloodstream through application to the skin, and while many people use DEET-based products without incident, others have suffered side-effects ranging from rashes and hives to uncontrollable twitching and muscle spasms to death. Children seem especially susceptible to DEET problems. In 1995 alone, the National Poison Control Center in Washington, DC. received over 6,700 reports of repellent exposure, including one death, and of the 6,700 reports, two thirds occurred in children age six and under.

The biggest media jolt came when ABC's PrimeTime Live did a twenty minute segment on DEET. The public began to pay serious attention, and companies like ours began to see very strong product movement. PrimeTime's report focused on particularly dramatic incidents that highlight the dangers. The program told the stories of Tim Christiansen, who at 26 years old died after using DEET twice one summer day in 1994; on Elijah Harrison, an 8 year old boy who's mother sprayed him with a 25% DEET product once a day for two days - he still suffers from seizures; and on workers in the Everglades National Park who experienced rashes, dizziness and numbness of the lips after using a DEET repellent.

Think about this the next time you spray the leading brand on your child......

IMPORTANT FACTS you should know!

The following harmful ingredients may be found in your personal care, hygiene and beauty products! by Shelley Kramer

I encourage you to check out the labels in your hair, skin, body, dental and personal hygiene products and beauty cosmetics. Be sure you know about the hidden carcinogens and harmful ingredients in them!

Over the last 100 years, the rate of cancer in the U.S. has sky-rocketed from 1 out of 800 people diagnosed, to 1 out of 3 today. Are you wondering why? We have some answers.

Ralph Nader; consumer advocate, forwarded from the book "The Safe Shoppers Bible" written by Samuel Epstein, MD and David Steinman, MD:

"Consumers receive little guidance from product manufacturers, whose advertising and labeling are too often misleading and not objective sources of information. Government also offer little guidance. Indeed, while many local, state and federal government agencies are entrusted with protection of the public health, most have failed to assure consumers that they are being adequately protected, or that they are being provided with full, if any, label disclosure of carcinogenic (cancer-causing), nuerotoxic (causing damage to the nervous system), or teratogenic( birth defect-causing) chemicals in their household products.

The Safe Shoppers Bible goes on to suggest: "Read the lables in your Shampoo, Deodorant, Toothpaste, Moisturizer, Facial Cleanser, Shaving Cream, Bubble-bath & other personal care products. You will most likely find some of the harmful 0- carcinogenic ingredients in the products you are using now!"

List of Carcinogens from the US Government Offices

PROPYLENE GLYCOL (MSDS)

Called a humectant in cosmetics, it is really " industrial anti-freeze" and the major ingredient in brake and hydraulic fluid. Tests show that it can be a strong skin irritant. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on Propylene Glycol warn to

avoid skin contact as it is systemic and can cause liver abnormalities and kidney damage.

MINERAL OIL (PETROLATUM, PETROLEUM) (MSDS)

First report on carcinogens from the US government: Coal and Mineral Oil

Comes from crude oil(petroleum) used in industry as metal cutting fluid. May suffocate the skin by forming an oil film. Helathy skin needs to take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. This process should not be inhibited.Holding large amounts of moisture in the skin can "flood" the biology, and may result in immature, unhealthy, sensitive skin that dries out easily.

PETROLATUM, PETROLEUM, MINERAL OIL (MSDS)

Same properties as Mineral Oil, Industrially it is used as a grease component.

.SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE (SLS) and SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (SLES) (MSDS)

Potentially, SLS is perhaps the most harmful ingredient in personal-care products. SLS is used in testing-labs as the standard skin irritant to compare the healing properties of other ingredients. Industrial users of SLS include: garage floor cleaners, engine degreasers and car
wash soaps. Studies show its danger potential to be great, when used in personal-care
products. Research has shown that SLS and SLES may cause potentially carcinogenic nitrates and dioxins to form in the bottles of shampoos and cleansers by reacting with commonly used ingredients found in many products. Large amounts of nitrates may enter the blood system from just one shampooing.

SODIUM FLUORIDE (MSDS)- used as rat poison, do you want it in your toothpaste?

COCOAMIDE DEA, TEA, MEA (MSDS)

diethanolamine, triethanolamine, sudsing agents, known carcinogens, seen on CBS News in 1998.

BENTONITE or KAOLIN - clays in foundations that may clog and suffocate the skin.

GLYCERIN (SYNTHETIC) (MSDS)

Draws moisture from inside the skin, and holds it on the surface for a better "feel". Dries skin from the inside out. Listed on MSDS as hazardous.

TITANIUM DIOXIDE (MSDS)- now FINALLY declared a carcinogen, 2001

COLLAGEN and ELASTIN of HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT

Derived from animal skins and ground-up chicken feet. Both of these ingredients form films that may suffocate and over-moisturize the skin. BAR SOAPS made from animal fat and lye may let bacteria feed and grow in it. May corrode and dry skin.
